How do I submit a maintenance request?
Maintenance requests can be submitted directly through the property’s resident portal—or you can email rentals@houghtonforrent.com. Our team meets daily to discuss maintenance needs and then goes out to fix them.
Do you allow pets in your rentals?
Pet policies can vary depending on the property—some may allow pets with an additional deposit or monthly fee. Please reach out to rentals@houghtonforrent.com for details.
When do I get my security deposit back?
According to the State of Michigan we must return your security deposit back, less and deductions within 30 days of the end of the lease. We ask for a forwarding address so that we can mail a check back to you. Or you can input your banking information and it will be deposited directly into your bank account.
How much is the security deposit?
The security deposit is only $249 per bedroom. We wanted to keep it economical for our tenants. For example, if you rented a 3 bedroom apartment the total security deposit is $747.
How do I apply for a rental?
Just hit the “Apply Now” button on the listing you’re interested in—or send an email to rentals@houghtonforrent.com if you’re not seeing what you want. The leasing team will get back to you with next steps!
When is rent due each month?
Rent is always due on the 1st of the month. But sometimes things happen and it slips your mind, that's why we have a 5 day grace period. As long as rent is paid by the 5th of the month you will not have a late fee. Rent is paid through our online tenant portal or via cash or check to be dropped off at our office.
What is the leasing process like?
Our leasing process is simple and straight forward. All you have to do is provide an ID, know your SSN, and have your security deposit money (Venmo, cash, or check) in order to secure your lease. We send leases out electronically or you can meet us in our office to go over it in person.
What is included with the rent?
Each lease is custom to the property as to what is included. Typically rent includes electric, water, heat, trash removal, laundry, plowed parking, lawn care, on call maintenance. Some also include internet. We want the rent to be all-encompassing that way you only worry about 1 payment per month.
What lease lengths do you offer?
Typically our leases are 1 year in length May to May. We have a couple properties that also offer partial year leases. May-December or January-May. These are depicted on the property page.
